Industrial Valve Inspection Agencies Introduction - Fleyenda Flow

Apr.25.2025

There are many valve inspection agencies on the market. In addition to the well-known CE, ISO, and Rhos certifications, what other valve certification agencies do you know? Fleyenda Flow will introduce you to internationally recognized certification agencies, national laboratories, industry associations, and professional third-party platforms for your reference.

Part1 Internationally Recognized Certification Bodies

These organizations play a vital role in the valve testing industry due to their global standard systems and widespread recognition. They provide comprehensive testing and certification services covering material composition, performance, safety, and environmental adaptability. Key players include:

SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance, Switzerland)
Headquartered in Switzerland and founded in 1878, SGS is the world’s leading and oldest independent third-party company engaged in product quality control and technical verification. Its valve testing services include material analysis, pressure testing, corrosion resistance evaluation, and certifications based on international standards such as ISO, API, and ASME.

Bureau Veritas (France)
Founded in 1828 and headquartered in Paris, Bureau Veritas is one of the most widely recognized organizations by governments and international bodies. As a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services, Bureau Veritas focuses on quality, health, safety, environmental management, and social responsibility. The company operates in over 150 countries with 850+ offices and laboratories, employing approximately 33,000 staff to serve more than 300,000 clients across diverse end markets.

Bureau Veritas is a trusted partner of global corporations such as IBM, MOTOROLA, and Nestlé.
Its valve services include material testing, pressure testing, and certifications according to standards like API 598 and ISO 5208. Its extensive international lab network makes it a preferred partner for valve exporters, especially in offshore and energy sectors.

TÜV SÜD (Germany)
TÜV SÜD is a globally renowned third-party quality certification authority based in Germany. It offers testing services for valve safety, functionality, and durability. TÜV SÜD is particularly authoritative in Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) compliance and CE marking certifications.

UL (Underwriters Laboratories, USA)
Based in the United States, UL is one of the world’s largest independent safety science organizations, with a long history and global influence. UL certification is applicable in both the U.S. and Canada, especially in fire safety and public utility sectors. In the valve industry, UL provides testing for fire protection valves, industrial valves, and related components in accordance with ANSI, API, and other standards. UL is particularly involved in safety certifications for plumbing hardware, including refrigerant valves, flow control valves, and fire protection valves.

EAC Certification (Eurasian Conformity, Russia)
The EAC certification (formerly CU-TR) is a mandatory conformity certification required for products sold in the Eurasian Customs Union countries—Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. It is an officially recognized legal document for market access in this region.

Which valves require EAC certification?

  1. Pressure-bearing valves (design pressure ≥ 0.05 MPa)

  2. Valves used for hazardous media such as natural gas, petroleum, and steam

  3. Gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, safety valves, and control valves used in pipelines and pressure equipment

These organizations ensure that valve products meet global market access requirements through rigorous testing procedures and internationally accredited qualifications.

Part2 National Testing Centers

National Testing Centers refer to institutions authorized by the state with advanced testing capabilities and authoritative certification qualifications, typically responsible for quality supervision, testing, certification, and technical research in specific industries or fields. Below is an introduction to five national testing centers.

China National Valve Quality Supervision and Inspection Center

  • Location: Zhejiang Province
  • Established: January 2014, authorized by the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China.
  • Testing Capabilities: Certified for 479 products/parameters under national CNAS accreditation. Capable of conducting tests on valves for fire resistance, micro-leakage, high and low temperatures, flow resistance, pressure performance, and materials. Addresses testing, research, and common technical challenges for 95% of valve products nationwide.
  • Cooperation: Collaborates with seven internationally advanced laboratories, including TÜV (Germany), ABS, TÜV Nord, and Moody (UK), achieving mutual recognition of test results.

NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), USA

  • Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Boulder, Colorado
  • Established: 1901
  • Testing Capabilities: NIST is a global leader in standards and technology research, focusing on physical sciences, engineering, and information technology. Provides measurement standards, calibration services, and technical certifications in areas such as materials, energy, quantum technology, and cybersecurity. Operates world-class laboratory facilities, including the National Earthquake Engineering Simulation Center and the Advanced Measurement Laboratory.
  • Cooperation: Extensively collaborates with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), and other national laboratories to promote global standards mutual recognition and technical exchange.

BSI (British Standards Institution), UK

  • Location: London
  • Established: 1901
  • Testing Capabilities: BSI, the world’s first national standards body, provides standard development, certification, testing, and training services across industries such as construction, healthcare, aerospace, and information technology. Holds testing capabilities for ISO and EN standards, with advanced facilities for fire resistance, electromagnetic compatibility, and product safety testing.
  • Cooperation: Collaborates with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), and others, with test results widely recognized globally.

BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing), Germany

  • Location: Berlin
  • Established: 1871
  • Testing Capabilities: BAM specializes in materials science, chemistry, and safety technology, offering testing and certification for material properties, hazardous goods transport, durability, and environmental impact. Holds CNAS and DAkkS international accreditations, with laboratory equipment supporting complex tests under high temperature, high pressure, and explosive conditions.
  • Cooperation: Partners with TÜV, EU standardization organizations, and multiple global laboratories, with test results highly recognized in the EU and international markets.

IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), India

  • Location: Multiple campuses (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai, Kanpur, across 23 locations)
